Whirlwind

The world feels like it’s spinning at the speed of light

The everyday merry-go-round makes me hold on tight.

If I can’t hold on, I’m afraid that I’ll fall off

That I’ll look up from the dirt as the others pass and scoff.

“It’s off to the races” at least that’s what they say,

But what’s the prize for keeping up at the end of another day?

A “badge of busy,” a burnt-out mind…maybe just some pride?

We take on the whole world, pushing health aside.

To join in on the spinning, we scroll and swipe away

Trying to outrun the worries that come from a long day.

But when I stop to think and remember to slow down,

I’m reminded of the little things and the beauty all around.

The sound of birds, a gentle breeze, the rushing of a creek

When I can drown out all the extra noise, God’s creation speaks.

The bees are busy working, but they don’t work like us,

Flower to flower they get what they need-resulting in sweet trust.

The flowers themselves are vibrant in color-dressed in splendor and beauty…

They don’t care what they wear- yet they grow up wild and free.

The birds don’t plant and harvest, still they always eat

Jesus asks each of us “how much more valuable are you to me?”

The truth is that He already knows exactly what we need

Striving and stressing drive us crazy…we’re not meant to run that speed.

Perhaps our work is bigger than the daily grind…

Through it all we’re building trust and transforming our minds.

When I step outside, take a breath, and look around at what I see

I wonder if the world’s not spinning…maybe…just maybe… it's me.

Choosing bold faith with you,

Katie

Mathew 6:26-30

“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?”

“And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin. / Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these. / If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”

Romans 12:2

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
