Seasons

There is a time for everything, and a season for each purpose
That’s what the Bible says about life when we look beyond the surface.
I find this true as I look back on each season of my life,
Reflecting on the calm and easy but also times of strife.
I’ve laughed and I’ve cried; I’ve lost, and I’ve gained
I’ve walked under the sun and stood in the rain.
When it’s warm and bright and the trees are filled with green
I often stop to take it in, capturing the scene.
The sun wraps me up with comforting heat and shines with rays of gold
It’s hard for me to ever think it will turn to gray and cold.
But every year the seasons turn like the ticking of a clock
The leaves fall off, the sun starts to hide, and it shouldn’t be a shock…
But just like life is bound to shift and bounce from up to down,
Are we ever really prepared when life throws us around?
When it’s dark and cold and trees are bare I often long for change
I remember that summer scene and it feels so out of range.
When you’re stuck out in the weather it’s easy to wonder when
The wind will shift, the clouds will part, and the sun will shine again.
But every season serves a purpose; and this I’ve had to learn:
That it won’t last forever, and the sunshine will return.
The seasons come and seasons go leaving us with something new
We don’t have to be afraid if we let God walk us through.
He says He goes before us like a blazing fire
He creates for us a path, and His ways are much higher.
When we pass through the waters, He says He will be there
The fire will not burn us, though the flames will rise and flare.
The Lord has made each season, and He has a master plan
His timing is perfect; even when it’s hard to understand.
If the sun was always out and we never saw the rain,
How would there be room for growth to cultivate a change?
When I’m waiting for the sun to shine and for the clouds to part,
I’ll remember the One who’s walked me through each season from the start
“To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:2
